  • Biscuits and Gravy, A Grand Slam!

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Jan 31, 2024

Saturday by 12:30 p.m., the biscuits were ALL GONE and only a couple spoonful's of the gravy were left as evidence of another success meal hosted by the Senior Citizen Center. A good crowd constantly flowed through the door at the Center, while the aroma from the kitchen filled the air. Chairmen of the event this time around were Barb Stevens and Margaret Leader who were at the Center bright and early, perky and excited to share the wares with the crowd. The success of the event should actually...

  • Response to Heinlein's Comments on Show Host

    Jan 31, 2024

I have started reading the Phillips County News back when the Regina Mt. mailman delivered it with the once-a-week mail, rain, or shine, even when it was with a tractor. Always enjoyed it, of course there was a lot more pages back then. Just like a habit, if I miss a week, I think I’m missing something. Now Parker Heinlein outdoor columnist takes up space. He does like our Phillips County outdoor opportunities. I usually don’t waste any time to read his column, but have read enough to know, he leans left. So, what if this is the good ole USA? W...

  • No One Has Ever Taken Our Guns

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Jan 31, 2024

A friend recently said her husband was in the process of passing along his collection of firearms to their grandchildren. She said she hopes the guns don’t get taken away, but confiscation remains a fear. I suppose that’s because the threat of the government taking our guns is nearly as old as me. Despite the fact that no one has ever taken our guns in this country, confiscation of firearms remains a right-wing talking point. As a result we have a populace armed with military-style weapons rea...

  • Spring Is Around the Corner

    Kari Hould, Karis Quiet Corner|Jan 31, 2024

It doesn’t take much for some of us (who am I kidding, for MANY of us) to get excited about the pending signs of spring. It had to be my lucky day when a small miracle occurred. Mother Nature, with a grab rail on one side and a walking cane in the other, was aided by the spikey grabby little metal shoes clips attached to her feet managed to shake off the fact that there were only five (5) degrees brave enough to show up on the thermometer and wish us a nice day Wednesday. What really set the day up for being optimistic though, was the p...

Happy Birthday to Christina and son w...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, January 31, 2024

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Jan 31, 2024

The weather is very spring like! It’s a great change from the subzero weather from a few weeks ago! The frozen pipes are all fixed, thank goodness! Remember, I’m writing the Loring news from the west side of Billings and the high temps this week are in the 50’s! There are a lot of pigeons around here, making a mess as we know they do around the granaries at Loring. Etta Blunt took 3rd place in wrestling in Glasgow on a Saturday and on Sunday she took 3rd in Malta where she wrestled up in weight...

    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Jan 31, 2024

    Compiled by Kari Hould|Jan 31, 2024

1 yrs ago Jan. 29, 2014 Proud of our local guy Greg Kielb, the voice of the Malta Mustangs and M-ettes received a citation from the Montana High School Activities Association (MHSA) for his “significant contribution” to high school sports. Rough calculations indicate in his 40 year career, Kielb has announced over 250 regular season football games and over 1,200 games for Malta boys and girls basketball teams. He has also called Class C games in the county, and 35 state championship games. When the rhetoric had subsided, Big Fork claimed the s...
