    Feb 14, 2024

Dear Proud Phillips County Citizens, We wanted IT, we needed IT, and we got IT! Now what??? Let’s keep IT! The “IT” I am referring to is the River’s Bend Assisted Living. We may not understand how we can help when we don’t have someone to move into River’s Bend now, so I thought I could share my opinion regarding that.... I love doing that! One action we can take is to support the amazing lunch meals provided by River’s Bend, Tony, Emily and awesome Chef Barb. The Congregate meals they prepare for Seniors are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday fr...

  • Birthdays Flush out Fond Memories

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Feb 14, 2024

Ace turned 13 today. There were times over the last six months I didn’t think he would make it. Not that there was anything specifically wrong with him, he’s just old -- for a hunting dog anyway. And he is that. Ace has been hunting since he was seven months. On Jan. 1 he completed his 12th season. Never the best dog in the pack, he blended in over the years hunting behind more aggressive, more talented dogs. Now it’s just him and Dot, a three-year-old who far surpasses him in the field. Hunti...

Happy Valentines Day! Have you gotten over the total excitement of the Super Bowl? We even had a tail gate party here at Affinity! The football game was playing at the theater, so it was on a big screen! One of the refineries had a fire which really put a huge amount of smoke into the air. Since David, my son, works at a refinery I was worried. But he works at Exxon and the fire was at Phillips 66, I heard that everyone was ok over there too! Good luck to the North Country Mavericks, both girls...

Pat was raised here, and her mom Gladys Berg cooked at the Whitewater schools for over 40 years. Lois Berg Breitman was her sister also. It is sad how many friends and family we have lost. It is February! The groundhog says there is going to be an early spring. This may be true as Easter is early this year-in March. Happy Birthday to all February birthdays.
