    An attentive audience with opinions, thoughts, and preferences were in attendance at the Listening Session addressing the possibility of changing from a five-day to a four-day school week. It was held at the Malta High School auditorium on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. This is the last session of exchanges between the public, the administration and the school board.     Again, sympathy to the family and friends of Ree Simonson, a lifelong resident of Whitewater. She recently moved to Malta. There was a wake rather than a funeral service at the Whitewater Lutheran Church and lunch followed. The next day, there was a large funeral service in Malta followed by dinner.     Luke passed away at the age of 72 at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes on February 21, 2024. Luke was born to Bruce and Ovilla Kirkaldie on May 15, 1951, at Fort Belknap and raised in Lodge Pole, Montana. Luke was a good friend to those who knew him, and he loved to be around kids, joking and teasing. A giving soul, always willing to give back to others in need.     Chip Young, beloved in the hearts of many, passed away peacefully at SMP Health-St. Raphael in Valley City, ND, under the compassionate care of hospice on February 22, 2024. He was 68 years old. Chip was born to Ralph and Ada Young in Malta, Mont., on November 7, 1955. As a proud Malta Mustang, he shone brightly as a local sports star before graduating in 1974.     The North Country boys basketball team saw their 2023-24 season come to a close at the Eastern C Divisional Tournament in Glasgow this past week. The Mavericks fell to the eventual runner-up, Plentywood, by a score of 49-31 in the opening round of play Feb. 28.
