Headline: Pinned inside car, man drives to Lewistown

An injured man had to drive himself 100 miles to a hospital early Thursday after he was pinned inside his car and couldn’t be freed by a passing motorist.

Charles Pershey, 35, a Missoula insurance salesman, was driving south of Malta when a tire blew on his small, foreign made car.

He couldn’t remember how many times the car rolled, but when he stopped, he was pinned inside, unable to get out.

Another driver stopped, but was unable to free him. Instead, he changed the tire for Pershey, who drove on to Lewistown and get help from a hospital nurse.

Upon his arrival at 6 a.m., an examination revealed chest and possible internal injuries, but his condition in not considered serious.

Headline: Council Meeting

The question of allowing the telephone company to put up poles on the three principal avenues was discussed and it was decided to not allow them to put on these streets, and those already up on Front Street are to be removed … we are of the opinion that the council acted wisely in this matter, as a string of telephone or electric light poles along the streets are anything but ornamental.

*A new, cement sidewalk is being laid this week around the First State Bank. Another nice improvement.

*On Friday, June 20, the people of Malta and vicinity will be given the opportunity of seeing the most colossal and sensational war picture ever produced in the history of motion pictures – Custer’s Last Fight – in three reels … this film cost over $30,000 to produce.
