One Nation, Under God

Summer Sports

Since I was young, I’ve always been a fan of major American sports like basketball, football and baseball.

I have to admit I was a little bummed when the scholastic year ended, because I got caught up in the school fight songs and our kids giving it their all on the field and court.

I have missed everything from football to volleyball to basketball to track and field.

I’m excited to see the school year is near due to my love of those sports, but I’ve gotta admit I’ve enjoyed the horsemanship that Crossfire Rodeo has brought. I had enjoyed my first rodeo, thanks to the efforts of Kolby Messerly and all that put it together last month.

I’ve enjoyed the joy that the Malta Swim Team has expressed and their efforts to be the best.

I’m still not a fan of Nascar, but I have found that I love drag racing. I’ve always liked drag racing, but the fact that the Hi-Line Dragstrip gives racers a chance to legally race is a dream come true.

I have had offers to ride down the track, however I couldn’t find a helmet big enough for my head.

It’s a bummer but it may be the motivation I need to cut my hair after eight years.

I guess I can tell you about my hair, since I get a lot of questions.

First off, my hair is real. I wash it the same as any other person, except less frequently due to the fact too much washing isn’t good for my hair.

For most of my life my hair was no longer than a half inch, due to my father’s preference.

When I was in my senior year, I decided to see how long I could let it grow and couldn’t think of a neater and more compact way to do it.

Thus, my friend from Saint Louis Christian College put my hair in little twists. After not washing my hair for a few months other than “No-Rinse Shampoo,” my hair started to lock up, meaning I couldn’t untwist my hair if I tried.

It seems funny to me when people try and give me a hard time about being a dood with long hair. Many figures in history that we as Americans look up to have or have had long hair, including the American portrayal of Jesus.

Eventually if I found a good reason to cut my hair I would, but until then I guess I’m stuck with them.

I’m not a hippie or tree hugger, though I do care about the upkeep of my lawn.

Speaking of which, my lawn is finally green and unless I burn the crap out of it with chemicals like I did a few weeks ago, it will stay that way.

Back to football, I must say, whoever takes care of Mustang Field. You have my attention. The field looks incredible. I could use some lawn tips.

I’m really excited about this football season, whether it be high school, college or professional.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how the team does with a young coaching staff, trying to establish a newer system.

This summer has been good, but I’m looking forward to it getting colder, so I’m not getting harassed by mosquitoes whenever I go outside.

If I could have one superpower it would be to fry every mosquito and gnats in a ten mile radius. Then when those turds bite the dust, I will simply say... Citizens of Malta, you are welcome.
