One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News for the Week of September 3, 2014

Part I

North 40 had a dart tournament in honor of Ryan Olson. There were about 10 couples in it, a diner and auction. All were well attended. It ended with a fireworks display that was spectacular. Nancy LabRie and family assisted with the tourney.

There were many guests at the tournament including Mark and Melanie (Green) Slade, and daughter from Great Falls.

School began Tuesday, August 19, here in Whitewater. Buses ran and town is quiet during school hours. Have a good year at school, children.

Happy birthday to my son Mitchell on August 14.

Thanks to Margie Olson for vegetables and peaches, she gave me. Margie had a good time on her vacation.

Thanks to Bonnie McMullen for the ham and other food, I appreciate it.

If you missed last week’s Phillips County News, the update on my water situation is that McMullan Repair got the water from the well to the house in the cellar. Now I will hire a plumber to repair pipes to run water up to the faucets and potty. Almost done!

Mosquitoes and flies are out in full force but at least they freeze in the fall...before people do.

Combining is now in full swing and many are finished. Combines are huge and work great now. When I was growing up here in the Whitewater, we “shucked” the grain by hand; putting sheaves of wheat, or grain, in upright bundles, with grain seed on top to dry. Does anyone else remember doing that? Anyway, I was supposed to help but was sidetracked by a baby mouse, which I caught and petted (because it was cute), and it bit me. Maybe that is what is wrong with me? The moral is, do not play with mice!

Stay cool.

Part II

Congratulations to Courtney and Jason Hellie on the birth of their son! We hear his name is “Tennessee Hank” probably called Hank. This is son number five! Hellie Farms will have lots of help later.

Sally Autsin and I attended the funeral for Dorothy Broadbrooks in Saco on August 20.

Sally Austin bought cucumbers from Hutterview and made lots of pickles.

There is a new teacher, Tracey Handley. She has three children from school. There are four new students who drive from Malta to Whitewater School, daily. Have a good year, students and teachers.

Dallas and Ashley Green got there picture in the Billings Gazette when they were combining near Forsythe. They are celebrities.

IT rained and rained, no, poured for three days in Whitewater. We got over four inches! Some farms up north got five to six inches! Everything is green again. The only one unhappy are the farmers who are not through combining, but the sun is out now.

Saco had water problems and school was closed Monday.

Bad news: my Social Security Check is lost. It is floating around somewhere. Let’s hope we find it.

Steve Young is Hot-rodding his red sports car. He Hot-rods a yellow sports car some also. How fast will it go, Steve?

Has anyone heard if the wagon train is coming to Malta on Labor Day? Hope so. Get a horse and ride.

There is a cricket in my house. What do crickets eat? Should I feed it?
