One Nation, Under God

David Oliver Ohs

David Oliver Ohs was born July 20, 1920, and passed away at home with his family at his side on August 26, 2014. David was born and raised on the family homestead in Harb, just east of Malta, Montana. He had six brothers and two sisters and they all attended a one room school house. David was raised during the drought of the twenties and the ensuing Great Depression. He recalled his first trip in to Malta when he was 15 years old, in 1935. He was so excited he did not sleep the night before and so slept in the buckboard during the 35 mile trip. His brother woke him and David was absolutely amazed at the great size of the "big city".

In 1954 David married the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy). They were blessed with three boys.

In 1964, David moved the family to Whitefish where they raised their family. David was devoted to the Lord and raised his family in a Christian home. With his depression era upbringing, David learned how to love and appreciate family, how to stretch a dollar and how to fix almost anything, provided he could find his glasses! He was often called upon by his three sons to fix cars and enjoyed puttering around in the garage with them. He also enjoyed gardening and browsing antique stores. He was also very proud of his Swedish heritage and loved to share stories with his family.

David was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His warm smile, sense of humor and love will be sorely missed. David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Margaret (Peggy)of Kalispell. Son Jim, wife Carolyn, children Dustin, Jesse, Caitlyn and (Devon) of Idaho. Son Kim (wife Cecelia, children Zach, Miranda and Sarah) of Washington and son Rick (children Jeremy (Kallie) and (Savannah) of Kalispell. Sister Eileen Sandefur of Kalispell David was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Lena Ohs, brothers Eric, Gustaf, Karl, Martin, Dennis, Wallace and sister Elsie.
