Jamboree Basketball: Hinsdale-Saco sweeps Whitewater in Hinsdale

In last Thursday's Jamboree basketball in Hinsdale, Hinsdale-Saco swept Whitewater in the opening boys and girls games at Hinsdale High School.

The Hinsdale-Saco girls defeated Whitewater 40-12, while the Hinsdale-Saco Boys won 44-13 over Whitewater.

In the girls action the team was led by Kaitlyn McColly, who had 16 points.

Jaycee Erickson and Danika Soper added 10 points a piece. Both Jaydyn Erickson and Cienna Strommen added two a piece.

McColly, who stood out on the court was chased down by a PCN reporter after their win.

"It was teamwork mostly and getting the ball around to everybody," she said, when asked about the key to their win.

When asked about how the team could improve, Jaydyn Erickson said, "We gotta practice our bunny shots."

In the boys win, three players led the team with eight points a piece. Those players were Sam Malmend, Wesley Leatherberry and Jeremy Longtree.

Loden Idler added six. Jon Taylor and Jack Boone added four a piece. Trey Johnson added two.

Though he didn't lead the team in scoring, Boone showed some serious skills as a passer in the game, racking up a few impressive assists.

Apparently Boone learned his on the court moves from a source of entertainment.

"I play a lot of video games," Boone told the PCN.

When asked about the team's victory, Boone credited the whole team for their ability to move the ball.

"We had great passing and great bigs. We just work great as a team," he said.

Hinsdale-Saco was tasked with playing against two of the leagues biggest players Luke Lawless, a six foot player who scored all of Whitewater's points and Beau Simonson.

"We had to shut them down in order to win," Boone said.

Though his team did well in the game, Boone knows his team can improve.

"We can improve our offense. We really need to work on that," he said. "We don't do too many plays, we just like the fast break."

Boone, a sixth grader at Hinsdale Public Schools aspires to be a Hinsdale Raider basketball player in high school, which is only a few years away. With passes like the ones he displayed, he could see time his freshman year.
