Mustangs Basketball: Mustangs 2-2 after losing close game to Glasgow and smashing Poplar

The Malta Mustangs had a lukewarm week.

The team saw both sides of the 2B spectrum this week as they took on the Glasgow Scotties and lost 65-60 in Glasgow last Friday.

They then came back home to take on the Poplar Indians. They dominated, winning the game 61-29.

Nate Costin led the team with 12 points that game.

Allen Williamson had 10 points. Tyson Carney had nine points. Jase Galt had eight. Devon Raybon had six. Ostin Welch had five. Jayce Bishop had four. Jeremy Costin and Hunter Love had two.

All of Malta's starters were pulled at the beginning of the fourth quarter and the bench players received an early Christmas gift. Playing time.

"It feels pretty good to step up from JV and play in varsity. It's quite a bit of a change," Jayce Bishop told the PCN.

Bishop went on to say that he wasn't nervous.

"Not as much today as I was against Glasgow," he said.

Glasgow is known to have a loud and imposing crowd especially during home games.

"It was exciting. It was scary," Bishop said.

Devon Raybon also got some extended time against Poplar.

"It's just a learning experience," Raybon said. "This will be my second year playing basketball ever so getting a chance to come out here with the big boys is a lot of fun."

He said it was a little nerve-wrecking that the whole crowd was screaming dunk it.

Raybon who is 6'3" has really good hops, which comes in handy for Malta.

One day he may even dunk the ball.

"Coach Costin encourages it, but he doesn't want us to do it at the end of the game when we have a firm lead," Raybon said. "If I would've dunked it at the end he would've been upset. Respecting your opponent."

In their loss to Glasgow, Malta was led by Jeremy Costin, who had 19 points.

Nate Costin had 12 points and Tyson Carney had 11.

It was a game that Malta had a nine point lead in the second quarter, but eventually the team lost the lead and the game went back and forth.

Glasgow eventually won the game on the free throw line in the forth quarter, converting 12 of 15 free throws, that quarter.

Malta only got to the free throw line three times that game.

Malta will have practices during break as they prepare to face Wolf Point, Havre and Rocky Boy the first week back.
