Betty was born September 3, 1927 in Saco, MT, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Martin) Lorentzen.

Betty graduated from Saco High School where she lettered in band by playing the trombone and attended all the dances as she loved to dance. She moved to Oregon with friends and worked as a telephone operator. She married Palmer Oliver Nybo, also of the Saco area, at the Chapel of Rocks and Roses in Medford, Oregon October 1, 1947. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Saco after she married Palmer.
