One Nation, Under God

Loring News for the weeks of June 1 and 8, 2016

6-1. Big shout out to all the service men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country. Thank you all!

This week was a little damp, but I did not see any snow or hail, knock on wood! We also had a fair bit of sun!

The beautiful brown trashers are back in our yard, eating insects. Also the fly catchers are building their nest on the deck again. I love seeing the wild flax in bloom on the way to Malta!

I made the trip across the big coulee over to Turner yesterday. Visited at the cemetery, blew some bubbles and flew my kite for the folks. Call me crazy, but mom told me more than once that I should try having some fun! The town of Turner looked marvelous, all trimmed up! I love stopping at Chapman to see what water birds are hanging around!

While I was at Turner a surprise visitor stopped in to see me, Brenda Kornfeld dropped off some information about the Canadian National Grassland Park. She has been trying to get me up there for quite a few years now. One of these days I’ll get my passport and surprise her!

Loring Lutheran Church will not have services on June 5, but on June 12 the service will be at 9:30 a.m. Also the Loring Community picnic will be June 15 at 6 p.m.

6-8. Condolences to the Morrison family on the death of Dode Morrison. She and her husband Keith, farmed in the Loring area for many years and her son, Mick and grandson, Jason, still are on the original land!

Paula Morrison, Carol Lumsden and JoAnn Hammond helped out at the color run on Saturday! Everyone was so pretty and colorful! They did a great job!

Brenda Clark, and the children,Tracy Hanley and children attended the festivities at the GPDM in Malta on Saturday.

Scott and Roxanne Cowan, of Scottsdale, Ariz., flew up to Billings on Thursday and visited family before heading up north to the farm. Scott had a fifty year class reunion in Malta over the weekend. I also got to attend the Saturday night dinner and it was so fun seeing all the old people! I saw some friends who I haven't seen in many decades! Or is that whom?

A big shout out to Bette Dyrdahl on her 93rd birthday! Happy birthday, Bette!

At the Dinosaur Kids' Day at the GPDM on Saturday, Dixie Stordahl had several Whitewater students helping out. Luke Lawless, Karly Santillan, Serena Sanguins all gave up their Saturday for some little kids activities! Adrianna Bibeau, Adam Mummy, and Reese Sjostrom of MHS also helped out.

Don't forget the Loring Community picnic on Wednesday, June 15 at 6 p.m.! Everyone is welcome! Bring a dish to share!

Loring Church at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday.

Jeannie Schroeder and the girls, Saige and Zoey Stordahl, are spending a few days with Rod Stordahl.

It is going to be warm this week! The planets, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter, will be visible in the night sky. Mars is opposite the sun now so when the sun sets, Mars rises. Saturn comes up before the sun sets so is higher in the sky when Mars comes up. Jupiter then comes up later in the night but before Saturn sets. Check it out on earthsky.org.
