One Nation, Under God

Missing the school year already

I used to look forward to summer break as a kid.

It was a time that dad used to pull out the grill, we would knock the dust off of our bicycles, go to the pool and hang out with friends outside of the classroom setting.

So I can see why it’s fun for kids.

But on the other end of the spectrum, I am not as geeked up about this joyous season.

I’ve walked the hallways of the elementary, junior high and high school building this past week and it looked like the rapture happened.

As far as sports go, I thoroughly enjoy covering all of the high school sports, whether that be track, basketball, football, volleyball, or even golf. Now that school is out I know there are sports still going on but I’ve grown to love the sports we cover during the school year.

I will truly miss the seniors that have graduated this year as well. It’s been an honor covering the class of 2016.

I’m sure I’ll be more content after the summer sports kick off.

For instance I love that the swim team is very competitive and I’m glad to see that the community is welcoming softball teams, soccer and even a skate park.

Why shouldn’t kids have a chance to play sports during the summer months?

I’m also looking forward to the fair.

The car show is always a highlight.

I’m also looking forward to grilling and smoking a lot of meats and veggies.

Definitely not looking forward to the mosquitoes… They are starting to hatch and that is terrifying.

I loathe the mosquito more than any God-made creature, although I have a theory that mosquitoes are of the devil.

For those wondering, yes P.J. is getting big and his vocabulary is expanding. He is really getting the hang of counting to ten. We tried to teach him counting down and at this moment it’s not happening.

Thanks to his baby sitter Tina, he now owns a grill and he cooks on that grill just like his dad-da.

Plastic corn has never tasted so good
