Naturalization Days

The following aliens declared intention of becoming citizens: Wm. J. Miller, Henri J. Miller, Oliver Brown, Emele J. Deveeux and Reta (no second name given) from Great Britain, and Arthur A. Nelson and Jacob Anderson from Norway.

Judge Utter will hold court beginning July 10th ad 11th, which have been set aside and Naturalization days.

The Celebration

Fourth of July morning dawned bright and clear in Malta, the only drawback being a strong wind for a short time in the forenoon, which prevented some of the decorations from being put in place. Early in the forenoon the Malta Band was on the streets in their new blue uniforms and rendered several patriotic selections. The crowds began arriving at an early hour and by noon fully one thousand people were here for the day's events.

The horse races were pulled off at the race track after the noon hour and all of them were carried out according to the program. This was followed by the foot races and other program events of the day on Front Street. The auto parade in the forenoon brought out a few well decorated cars and a bunch of "Little Fords." The first prize went to Miss Gladys Robinson and her Dodge car. The second was won by the Orpheum float which was very nifty.

The day's events closed with a splendid display of fireworks in the evening. Taken in whole it was a good celebration and we think the people who came here this year to celebrate were repaid.

Good Neighbor Bus driver hanging up her keys

Terry (Williamson) Lodmell''s successor as driver of the Good Neighbor Bus is calling it quits after 26 years.

Barb Omdahl took the job in 1979 and has decided it's time to spend a little time travelling with her husband, touring and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Looking back at her long career behind the wheel, Barb said the worst memory is when they cut the schedule back from five day a week to four.

Her best memories are of the hundreds of people she has driven for over the years and of the people she has worked with.

Small audience, but strong spirit

The thunderstorm may have driven away the audience, but those who missed Gene Sullivan and his "Jump for Jesus" evangelism program at Trafton Park Saturday night really missed out. Sullivan jumped his motorcycle and crashed through "the fiery gates of hell" on Sunday.
