One Nation, Under God

Hi, I'm Pierre...

And I’m an overeater.

Shows like my 600 pound life and The Biggest Loser should inspire one to live a healthy lifestyle. It should inspire viewers at home to get up off the couch, put down the pizza and get active.

For me it seems to do the opposite and it has been that way for years. I remember watching The Biggest Loser ten years ago and at the same time smashing a large oven pizza. This wasn’t a onetime thing. In fact it became a weekly ritual.

There were times I rode a stationary bike while watching the show but that was only a couple of times. In my first couple years of marriage I made a compromise. That compromise was exchanging pizza for nachos.

These weren’t just any nachos; these bad boys were loaded with ground beef or chicken, cheese, salsa, sour cream, jalapeños and some form of hot sauce.

For some reason those shows make me hungry. I don’t know if it’s because of the flashes of the food they show throughout these shows or the barrage of commercials that feature fast food joints.

Sometimes I feel like a machine. If there is a whole pizza is front of me, it is in danger. I can’t stop at just two or three slices. I eat until it’s gone. My brain tells me that I might be full, but wait there’s more.

So instead of stopping when I’m full, I act like if I don’t eat it, it will be wasted. Be sides I don’t like cold pizza and leftover pizza isn’t my favorite thing either.

But my overeating isn’t limited to just pizza. The bottom line is, if it’s tasty, it’s going down.

I’ve always played for keeps only to wonder how I have kept my weight under 400 pounds.

I know eventually my metabolism will get worse and worse, so I have some good news. I have slowed down and I don’t eat as much per meal as I did a couple of years ago.

I’m not giving up junk food completely but I can honestly say, I’ve made an effort to consume less.
