Debit card numbers hacked in Malta and beyond

Dozens of Malta residents woke up last Wednesday and found purchases from a Missoula Walmart on their bank statements. Problem is, none of them were in Missoula to make said purchases.

Over a two-day span, stolen debit card numbers were used to make purchases at the Missoula Wal Mart store. Phillips County Sheriff Scott Moran has contacted the Missoula Police Department and Walmart for transaction information and videos. Moran told the PCN on Thursday that local banks are supplying the Sheriff’s Office information which he is forwarding with the Walmart records to the FBI as he receives it and that the FBI is assisting in the investigation.

Moran said that the hacked debit cards weren’t isolated to Malta and towns across the eastern part of the Hi-Line were also having the same problem. If you have had your debit card illegally used, you are encouraged to have a complaint form signed at the sheriff’s office as soon as possible.
