Carcass results from 2016 4-H and FFA

The carcass results from the 2016 4-H and FFA livestock show at the Phillips County Fair are complete. Carcass results are eligible to be submitted to the Steer of Merit program, sponsored by the Montana Stockgrowers; Symbol of Excellence program, sponsored by the Montana Pork Producers Council; and Montana Certified Lamb program, sponsored by the Montana Wool Growers.

For meeting individual carcass requirements, youth winners and the breeders of their animals receive a certificate from the sponsoring livestock organizations, and 4-H trophies for first (Grand) and second (Reserve) place exhibitors in each species.

There were two steers out of 18 that qualified for Steer of Merit. The Grand Champion Market Beef Carcass was presented to Spencer Gibbs. His trophy sponsor was Veseth Cattle Company. Spencer’s beef breeder was Milton Oxarart. The Reserve Champion Carcass was Channing Mavencamp with the trophy sponsor by John and Ruth Flansaas. Channing’s beef breeder was Charles Mavencamp.

There were no market lamb that qualified for Montana Certified Lamb. The Grand Champion Market Lamb Carcass belonged to Dylan Brown with his trophy sponsored by Independence Bank. Reserve Champion Market Lamb Carcass trophy was awarded to Josie Brown and the trophy sponsor was Mike and Lorna Lang. Dylan and Josie’s lamb breeder was Jeanie Green.

Sixteen youth qualified for the Symbol of Excellence swine carcass awards out of 54 swine. The Grand Champion Market Swine Carcass was awarded to Kora LaBrie with her trophy sponsor being Independence Bank. The swine breeder was Teri Horinek. The Reserve Champion Market Swine Carcass trophy was awarded to Caleigh Green and the trophy was sponsored by George and Berta Anderson. The swine breeder was Hartland Colony. Other SOE certificate winners were; Payton and Connor Clausen with the breeder of the Hartland Colony, Kaden LaBrie (Teri Horinek), Rhett Simanton, Peyton and Sidney Meeks, Tova Anderson, Charli Carnahan, Duke Williamson, Jaydyn Erickson, Bailey Funk, Jace Oxarart, Dawson Hammond, Eva Yeadon (all were from the Hartland Colony). Kora LaBrie is awarded the traveling trophy for the Grand Champion Overall Pork donated by the Mingneau family in memory of Jess and Diane Jones.
