One Nation, Under God

Pretty good week for the sports editor

Last weekend was busy for me, but it was definitely one of the best I’ve had in the last months.

I am proud to say that I am back to operating a manual transmission vehicle. The other day my wife Susan and I purchased a new to us vehicle. It kind of came out of nowhere.

As I was driving my beautiful wife to work, she pointed out a vehicle that has been on sale for a while.

I wasn’t looking for a vehicle but as soon as she mentioned it was a 6-speed my ears perked up.

I also like that the vehicle potentially had working air conditioning because it is the hottest time of the year and I can’t put PJ in a hot car.

The fact that this vehicle was about ten years newer than the one that I had was also a bonus.

I cringed at having to enter a new financing period with the bank but I test-drove the car and fell in love with it.

I don’t know if it was because of the Fast and Furious movie franchise, but when I first started driving one of the most important things to me was to learn how to drive a manual transmission. They didn’t teach that in our driver’s education courses but I wanted to learn.

My buddy Mo let me learn in his Toyota back in high school and then I saved my money to buy a 5-speed 95 Plymouth Neon.

Though the car didn’t fit my personality or stature, I loved that car. It was my second car after I bought an automatic 88 Honda Civic for $300. The Civic was a lawn mower and driving it was like driving a golf cart.

I have to say though it has put us in a little more in debt, an upgrade to our family’s second vehicle has been a blessing and I’m thankful that my wife brought it up.

Another great thing about the weekend was that we tried out the Waterpik flosser. It is like a car wash for your gums. For $35, I highly endorse it.
