One Nation, Under God

List of activities honoring Veterans this week

Local businesses will join the Buster Deo Post Auxiliary in honoring Veterans this Friday in honor and recognition of Veteran’s Day.

Shear Essence beauticians/stylists, Sue Kaluza, Tiffany Fercho and Chelsea Bisset will offer free haircuts for Veteran’s on Friday. Appointments are necessary so call early for availability. Jerry Salveson at Jerry’s Barber Pole will also participate in the recognition by offering Veteran’s haircuts for $10 that day, and again, customers will also need to make appointments.

Friday will also offer an opportunity for Veterans to have a hot cup of coffee - compliments of the Westside Convenience Store, The Hitchin' Post, Stretch's and the GN.

That is the word on the events as of getting this article to the news office on Monday morning. This may be subject to change.

The evening will be topped off with a roast beef dinner for the Veteran’s which will be free to our servicemen and servicewomen. The public is invited and there is a $2 charge and dinner is served at 6 p.m. Make plans to come join and honor those who were so committed for our freedom.

Anyone having any questions can contact VFW Auxiliary members, Kari Hould, Carolyn Schmoeckel or Cheryl Wallace.

Students in grades 6-8 have submitted entries for the “Patriot’s Pen” essay contest and these will be judged this week. The local Auxiliary will also be judging entries for the “Voice of Democracy” competition.

While this week is packed with activities, don’t forget to remember our Veteran’s throughout the year. Keep the lonely, withdrawn, shut-in and aging in mind as you prepare for the upcoming holidays of giving thanks and celebrating Christmas. Not everyone is as fortunate as you and your family are - reach out and include a veteran in some manner before the year ends.
