News from the South Fork hunters

The hunting party which left Malta Friday arrived in camp on the South Fork all O.K. and are in the country of big game. No game yet except one small bear, and he was brought in alive by John Tressler and "Chick" Whitcomb. The bear left, alive, without the aid of either, or interruption. Bear fighting is sort of a trade by itself and as John and "Chick" are both professional men they are taking kindly to the new occupation and promise to become very proficient while in camp. B.H. Koke says he never lost but one and is not particular about ever finding it. The writer wants one but it must be plum gentle and halter broke. Of course we expect to bring one or more home with us.

The mountain climbing is doing the Tressler boys a lot of good and Koke is training down like a real man. He has reduced his weight about 20 pounds and will likely come home looking respectable, with his bow window all gone.

Great West Film Co. again coming to Malta

Members of the Great West Film Company will arrive in Malta from St. Paul Sunday for the purpose of producing another feature film play. This time the company will film a picture entitled Pill and Parson Sims, taken from the one of Wallace Coburn's poems.

The company will be forced to move around considerably to secure the scenery necessary for this winter picture, and expect to work in Malta, Zortman and at the old Fort Assiniboine near Havre.

The Golden Goddess, which was produced at Malta and Zortman the past summer and fall, is said to be drawing crowded houses with every appearance.

Deserted at Malta

Harry Doan of Minot, N.D., is under arrest here, charged with a violation of the Mann White Slave Act, and Miss Jeanette Gagen, of Clarksfield, Minn., a teacher, is the government's principal witness.

Miss Gagen charges that her romance took them to Malta and Poplar, and that Doan deserted her at the latter place. The girl sought him continuously since last July and she located him in Malta.

Former Malta boy gets his Navy Wings in San Francisco

When Louie LeCorno, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph LeCorno, received his Navy Wings in San Francisco recently, he had the unusual experience of having his brother, Henry LeCorno, of the US Army, there to watch the ceremony. The latter has been stationed at Camp Callan, Calif., and came to San Francisco to watch his younger brother receive the coveted wings.

Born in Malta, the LeCorno brothers attended Malta and Butte Schools. Louie is 18 and Henry is 21 years old.

Jack Derendt loses 200 turkeys out of large flock

Jack Derendt, who operates a ranch north of Saco, reported to Sheriff R. L. Campbell's office Saturday that he lost 200 turkeys out of a flock of 1,000. The birds were feeding in grain fields and on the open prairie and it was believed that Friday's heavy windstorm might have scattered them.

In a coulee a number of miles from the feeding grounds a flock of 70 turkeys were discovered. There is a probability that some of the birds were stolen, sheriff's officers said.

County apparently out of running for generating plant

Phillips County is apparently out of the running as a possible location for a future electrical generating plant.

That's the word from a Boise, Idaho, firm, Rosebud Enterprises, which had listed Phillips County as one of several proposals it put forward to Montana Power Company recently.

Rosebud called the PhillCo Economic Growth Council recently to say that the Phillips County proposal was being dropped because the firm was unable to obtain commitment from Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) for an uninterruptible supply of gas.
