Malta High School home of the Northern B Volleyball Tourney

Malta High School will host the 2017 Northern B Divisional Volleyball Tournament starting this Thursday with the hometown M-ettes claiming one of the eight spots as teams seek State Tournament bids.

Joining the hometown ladies at this week’s Northern B Divisional will be Glasgow, Cut Bank, Fairfield, Choteau, Harlem, Wolf Point and Shelby. The opening match of the tournament on Thursday tips off at 10 a.m. and will feature Glasgow (who defeated Wolf Point for the district crown in Wolf Point last weekend) followed by the M-ettes against Fairfield at 11:45 a.m. The afternoon action pits Choteau against Harlem at 1:30 p.m. and Wolf Point against Shelby at 3:15 p.m. The four winning teams from the open round of the tournament play one more time on Thursday with matches slated for 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. before the action picks up again on Friday with loser-out contests tipping off at 10 and 11:45 a.m. Matches will be played throughout Friday.

The championship will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday (with another possible contest at 3 p.m. depending on who advances through the Round Robin action leading up to Saturday.)

The M-ette’s will come into the Northern B Divisional after a 3-0 loss to Wolf Point in the third-place match at the 2B District Tournament held at Wolf Point on Saturday. Malta took fourth place overall at the tournament with wins over Poplar (3-0) and Harlem (3-0) in loser-out action last Friday after falling to Wolf Point 3-1 in the open round of the event. Glasgow marched to first place with wins over Harlem (3-0), Wolf Point (3-1) and Wolf Point again in the championship match (3-2.) Editor's Note: Late Monday night, The MHSA stripped Glasgow of their first place finish because of a practice violation earlier in the week. Wolf Point was awarded first place and Glasgow second.
