One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News and Opinion for February 21, 2018

Sympathy to the family of Vivian McMullen, a former Whitewater resident.

Ree Simanson, Joanne and Howie Hammond and also Laurie Carrie (Billings) traveled to Mexico! They went sightseeing, shopping and visited Ree’s former exchange students at Whitewater High School!

They all had a good time; except for the change in weather from 80 above south of the border to snow and temperatures of -30 back home in Phillips County.

Today it was -48 around Whitewater!!

Congratulations to Whitewater’s Luke Lawless on his accomplishment in wrestling competitions.

Also, congratulations to Hannah Hanley on winning the Phillips County Spelling Bee! Also, congratulations Trey Simonson on wrestling and to all the Mavericks players, coaches, fans, and bands. You all did great and had a wonderful year.

There was a pep rally after a potluck for the Mavericks on February 13 at Whitewater School.

Salute to Gene Brown who was a US Navy SEAL for 23 years! Gene was raised in Whitewater and he is my nephew and Janet’s son. (Note: There is a TV show on CBS about Navy SEALs, and part two airs on February 28.) A salute to all military personnel (and especially the SEALs.)

Here’s hoping you are all warm, or at least not gathering and burning “sheep coal” or “cow chips” like we did in the 1940’s and the pioneers before that. Count your blessings.

Thanks to those who gave me Valentine’s cookies. Also thanks to Whitewater Church and Jason Hellie for using his snow plow to clear snow all over town.

Think Spring!

Helen A.
