Alpha Zeta Essay winners honored in Hinsdale

Emerson Downing of Saco was the Grand Prize winner in Alpha Zeta's 27th annual creative writing contest. Emerson along with 47 other winners were recognized at an awards assembly in Hinsdale on March 29th. The topic on which all students wrote was Celebrate Kindness. First, second, third, and honorable mention places were awarded in these categories: Kindergarten, First and Second, Third and Fourth, Fifth and Sixth, Seventh and Eighth, and High School.

There were 308 entries submitted in the contest this year, and they were judged by at least two judges in each category. The essays and/or poems were judged on content, originality, language and mechanics, and neatness. The creative writing committee is especially thankful to the judges for their time in judging the essays or poems. The members of Alpha Zeta also wish to thank all the teachers who encouraged their students to submit entries in the contest.

Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honor society of women educators with members in all 50 states and in many countries is the world. The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. The members of Alpha Zeta chapter are from Phillips County and Hinsdale.
