2018 Pool & Lifeguards

A brief introduction to this year's Lifeguards as pool opens for summer

The Malta Municipal Pool opened for its 52nd season the first of June and following the facilities' biggest weekend last week - the Malta Swim Team Meet - Mayor John Demarais said he heard nothing but good things.

"I had about five people tell me on Friday night that the pool was looking the best it has in a number of years," he said. "So thanks to Jim (Truelove) and the Public Works team, because I know what it takes to keep that pool looking nice."

Malta Parks and Rec Directors Julia Tatafu and Natalie Judd are once again managing the pool this year, but Tatafu said that the seven lifeguards working at the pool are knowledgeable and well-trained and are led by head lifeguard Adessa Judd who enters her third year on the job.

The pool season for 2018 is from June 1 through August 18 and is open in one form or another every day of the week except Sunday. Tatafu said that the swim lessons have also returned this year with two different sessions (June 18 through 28 and July 23 through August 2) and each session has different levels held at different times.

Monday through Thursday, open swim is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., lap swim is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and family night is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday, the hours of the pool are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Wednesday afternoon, the seven lifeguards for the 2018 Malta Municipal Pool season met with the PCN for a photo shoot and brief Q&A to help introduce them to the public.
