Lady Coyotes end year in Glasgow

The Dodson Lady Coyotes season ended at the 2019 Eastern C Divisional in Glasgow after the team fell to Froid-Medicine Lake and Richey-Lambert last week.

"For putting together a team to try and perform at the level of the other teams in three months, I felt that we gave a respectable performance," Dodson Head Coach Deserae Kill Eagle said. "We have a lot of work to do but hopefully we will see the results of that next season."

In the team's loss to Froid-Lake, the Redhawks netted 33-of-61 field goal attempts while going 0-of-12 from outside of the perimeter.

Dodson was led by Ella Messerly who had 21 points and six rebounds. Kailee Henry scored 19 points and had six rebounds. Henry knocked down five treys and Messerly had four treys.

Christina Jaynes had 11 points, two treys and five rebounds. Jean Jackson had 2 points.

"I was proud of those girls," Coach Kill Eagle said. "They are kind of the older leaders on the team as well. The was kind of our goal; to get the others involved offensively."

Henry, Messerly, and Jaynes accounted for 60 of the team's 62 shot attempts.

"It's something we have been trying to work on, especially when you're working against a tall team like that," Coach Kill Eagle said. "We need to work the ball around the court. They are young girls, so it's definitely something we can work on for next year. Defensively I couldn't ask for more from our young girls."

In Dodson's loss to the Richey-Lambert, Henry led the Lady Coyotes with 11 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Messerly had 10 points and three rebounds. Jaynes had eight points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Lindsey Fetter had four points and seven rebounds.

"We got off more shots this game," Coach Kill Eagle said. "If they would've went in then maybe it could've been a different game."

The Fusion reacted better to the 9 a.m. game. They led throughout and jumped out to a 21-2 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. Dodson eventually found the bucket in the second quarter outscoring the Fusion 10-9 in the second.

"We were still sleeping that first half," Coach Deserae said.

Richey Lambert outscored Dodson 12-10 in the third period. Dodson outscored Richey-Lambert in the fourth period 11-8.

"We didn't start waking up until the fourth quarter." Coach Kill Eagle said. Trying to chip away when there is four minutes left doesn't work."

Dodson had already struggled in the paint in their loss to Froid-Lake. Their defensive struggles coupled with an early morning was detrimental.

"Richey-Lambert really killed us down low," Coach Kill Eagle said. "Defensively we weren't (ready). You have to be awake for defense."

With the season over, Coach Kill Eagle knows the team can improve.

"I hope they are motivated to work off-season because that is when it starts; literally right now," Coach Kill Eagle said.
