One Nation, Under God

Slow Cleaner

I have to admit something.

I am terrible at doing chores. No, not because I am a guy, but I think it has something to do with my attention span.

Back when I was growing up, when it came to cleaning, I was the star of the show. After school, my two younger brothers would try to clean the house for our parents before they got home from work.

It was during this time that we were taught how to clean dishes, wash our clothes, clean the bathroom, and everything else. I used to think I was great at all of that stuff.

I took pride in doing those things because society tells you that men don’t know how to do all of those things. My parents raised us to where we could be completely independent, this included not having any lady waiting on us; so that we were able to take care of ourselves.

I did great through college and my post-college years. I did great the first few years of marriage. Then adulthood hit me. I knew how to take care of myself, but then Susan and I had PJ. And then Lincoln. My skills have been put to the test and I noticed that I wasn’t very good at chores.

My first strike was the laundry. I can load and unload the clothes just fine, it is the folding that has me messed up. Susan has a different way of folding clothes than I do. I was booted from that particular chore.

My biggest flaw is that I am slow at cleaning. I always pre-wash dishes before I put them in the dishwasher, which makes me slow.

I can’t seem to straighten up our room without needing some form of entertainment, which also makes me slow.

I think I may have a self-diagnosed case of Attention Deficit Disorder. It is something that I hope to get tested for one day.

I just can’t seem to get it right when cleaning. Luckily for me, Susan does appreciate the effort.

On the other hand, what takes me hours to do, Susan seems to do in minutes. I could be exaggerating, but I do know that she is at least twice as efficient as me.

I appreciate all that my wife does for our sons and myself. She is an excellent wife and mother.

PJ and Lincoln were sick last week, but they are on the mend after being seen by the providers at Phillips County Health Clinic. After treatment, it seems that they improved quickly.

I am thankful that neither tested positive for the flu or strep, so they should be up and running again any minute. (Definitely by the time you have read this.)
