One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Sympathy for the victims of the fires. Be careful with Montana Fires.

Get well to all who are sick, including Steve Young.

Whitewater School is in session; it livens up the town.

It was so different when I went to school. We didn’t start school until September or after Labor Day. Now it begins in August.

In first grade there were no school lunches, we took our own. There were no buses, everyone came by themselves. When the lunch program began, the fantastic cook was Gladys Berg. She cooked at Whitewater School for almost 50 years.

I helped her in the lunchroom for two years. I took a Home Economics class which required some hours of work.

It was years later when the breakfast club began. Times change.

Most farmers and ranchers are through swathing and baling hay. Now combining is in full swing. The crops are good according to most reports. Certainly, better than the last few years.

Machines are sure bigger than when I grew up. Keep children away from all farm machines.

Margie Olson was telling us about the “Cottonwood Grazing Association”. It has disbanded now; most members have passed on.

Sunday Pastor Hal and Mrs. DeBoer attended Whitewater Lutheran Church.

Pastor Hal preached at various prairie churches in Montana.

The local 4-H club met in Whitewater on Sunday. Congratulations to all the winners at the PC fair.

It has been cold here, but today is beautiful. Enjoy it now.
