One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Courtney Hellie who recently passed away.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband and six boys.

Sympathy to my cousin Ray and Lois Austin on the passing of their son Christian Austin. He was involved in an accident in Seattle, Wash. Very sad.

Back in Whitewater, the air is smoky coming from the fires in Canada. There are fires in western Montana also.

Now that school has started, so have volleyball and cross country. Good luck to the athletes in Phillips County.

Saco Fun Days was fun! Irene Wendeln attended with me, saw the parade, ate 2-

BBQ meals and visited. The music was great. The best part of Saco Fun Days was seeing my granddaughter Challise and her husband Tim Hoff. It was good to see them.

Thanks to Monte Broadbrooks for giving me a ride home to Whitewater.

The only thing wrong with the weekend was the trains. They were going by every half hour. (Our Whitewater is quiet).

In 1959, we had a little train called the “Galloping Goose”. I don’t know when that train quit. The train traveled from Glasgow to Hinsdale, Saco, Whitewater, and then on to Hogeland and Turner. It carried mail, groceries, and even shipped cattle and sheep. Now most everything is hauled by trucks.

Irene Wendeln from Chinook said most of the farmers are done with harvesting in that area. Hope it all went well. There is lots of hay! We are blessed!

Helen A.
