About 24 hours after his arrest on assault charges involving his own minor children, Edwin Woodin was sentenced to 60 years in the state penitentiary. He was arrested Thursday, entered a plea of guilty, and on Friday was escorted to Deer Lodge by Sheriff Frank Partridge. Thus ended one of the most revolting crimes to come to the attention of local law officers in many years.

Barbara Jean Norman, the one-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Norman of Brookside, died Sunday in Zortman.

The marriage of Betty Trottier of Malta and Lauren Licht of Wagner was solemnized at the parsonage of the Community church on Saturday. Witnesses were Carol Doney and Manly Trottier. They will make their home in Wagner where he is engaged in farming.

Pete Dobson, a local auto dealer, before a “kangaroo court” went on trial for what amounted virtually to his life and was found guilty for the unauthorized disposition of one duck. Dobson was found guilty and “got the book” and if there had been another one lying around he would have got that, too.

Some of the damning evidence included testimony from John Sundseth and Polly Southwick who testified that the defendant was “mean and ornery” and that he habitually beat his wife. Henry Jacobson said that when he called at the Dobson home he found the defendant’s wife chained to the kitchen sink with a pile of dirty dishes before her! Dobson was sentenced to 99-years at hard labor – later suspended by Judge Earl Hanson because of his good behavior.
