Featured in the PCN “Senior Highlight” was Eva Oxarart, who shared that her favorite movie was “any western with John Wayne,” and as a retired rancher and wife, said her favorite meal was anything with beef.

Lloyd Baeth, Clair Waters, Roy Baeth, Kathy Waters, Dan Lowney and Cliff Johnson were pictured with a restored 1937 Model B John Deere tractor on the floor at Lloyd’s Auto.

After getting bites of interest in his business, Hanson Lumber, that didn’t materialize, Digger was finally able to sell the store to Joyce and Ross Simser.

Queen Rose Doucette and King Parker Prellwitz enjoyed the Malta High School Prom.

Dodson High School Prom King Jesse Stephens and Queen Raven Bear enjoyed the “Heaven on Earth” theme, and a night of dancing and conversing.

Lester and Sandra Wiebe enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary with their family, Walt and Lona, Colten and Seterah, Scott and Corrine; and Kevin, Barb, Kalen and Brett.

Jalen Lamb received the award for the Angler of the Year in the 11 and over category at the 25th Annual Walleyes Banquet from Chapter President Don Voegel. Troy Manoukian and Kimberly Brown received $500 scholarships from the club.

The Swishfest, with 67 teams and an estimated 300-500 athletes, was set to begin at the four gyms in town this weekend.

Kylie Hunter, Jillian O’Brien, Addison Ulrich, Owen Thompson, Kennedy Koss and Shane Soul posed for a picture after being honored for the winning “Ag in Montana Bumper Sticker” entries.

The Malta High School Girls took 1st place in the JJMT in Glasgow. In overtime, with only 3 players left on the floor for the last minute of play, they defeated Regina. Team members are Mary Kalal, Shay Garfield, DeeDee Johannesen, Eva Harms, Marlow Manoukian and Tatum Moore.

Family and friends of Ethyle Anderson, including her eight children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and even one great, great-grandson, gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Malta High School students who participated in the Odyssey of the Mind team that placed second at the state tournament in Bozeman were Shannon and Mike Brady, Erik Faaborg, Leila Barnard and Bethany Johnson.

Winners in the “What Agriculture Means to Me” poster contest are Nathan Crowder, Tiffany Salveson, Kelsey Prellwitz, Warren Abrahamson, Julie Petrie, Noah Harms, and Lance Henderson.

C Stars Champions at the JJMT held in Glasgow for grades 9-10 were Jesse Simonson, Jeremy Pearson, K.J. Wilke, Dallas Howard, Shawn Blount, Kevin Math, Josh Palm and Tom Knudsen. They were coached by Lynn Simonson and Steve Knudsen.

Patrick Menge, Saco Middle School student, won top honors at the school science fair with his project, “Scorched.” He had tested 15 different types of wood for two minutes to determine their heat capacity.

Luckily no one was sitting in the east side of Westside Restaurant when a vehicle driven by Donna Hanson went through the wall. Delores Hughes, who was sitting with a friend in the restaurant, was treated and released from the local hospital following injuries received from the incident.

The January 17 Great Falls Tribune stated, “…the tiny Whitewater District, 20 miles shy of the Canadian border, was often at the top of the heap.” Since 1997, Whitewater School students continue to score well on the Montana standardized test, which is a reflection on Academic Coach Mike Beyer.

Clara Haser welcomed visitors to her home in celebration of her 90th birthday. A native of Chicago, Illinois, she came to Montana in 1913 and she and her husband homesteaded in the Berg community.

Ralph Young has filed for the office of Phillips County Sheriff on the Republican ticket. He served as Malta's Chief of Police for 13 years, resigning last spring.

Lary Poulton was appointed as the county supervisor for Phillips County with headquarters in Malta.

Kelly Koss apparently fell asleep while driving and his pickup went off the left side of the road, 5.8 miles south of town, rolled up the side of a hill and then rolled back again resting on its top. He was not injured, but there was moderate damage to the pickup.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Warren are hosting an open house in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary. The event will be at the Parish Hall in Dodson.

Winners in the Junior Division of Home Economics Judging were Linda Jacobson, Terri Jo French and Darcy Crowder; placing in the Senior Division were Roxanne Jacobson, Colleen DePuydt and Joyce Austin.

Members of the Montana Coaches Association have named dream teams for the Class A Tournament, with Mike Cole and Ed Cerkovnik on the first team and Don Nevrivy and Chip Young receiving honorable mention.

Eastern Montana Industries manager, Felix McCollum, announced the list is now up to ten clients. Mrs. Bill Garlie is working with Tommy Oderman, Richard Fauth, Robert Stenswick, Jimmy Vanderberg, Dale Engel, Ramona Stenswick, Janice Carlson, Robert Sullivan, Anne Jefferson and Henry Siltz, along with McCollum.

In District Court action, Charley Barrows of Zortman was sentenced to five years at Deer Lodge for first-degree assault. Carl Coulsom was committed to the state institution at Warm Springs last week.

The Tressler Lumber Company, one of the oldest business establishments in Malta, was sold to Monarch Lumber Company of Great Falls. It was announced that the new yard manager will be Matt Golek, the current manager in Sunburst.

Miss Laura McCrory of Minneapolis and Bryan Stevens of Dodson were united in marriage at the home of her parents in Bismarck last week. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Beckman before the jonquil-decorated fireplace.

Mr. Mikesell showed a movie on telephone courtesy in social economics on the proper use of a telephone in a business firm. He also passed out some pamphlets on phone courtesy, which were very interesting and had some very simple, but necessary rules to follow when using the phone.

Rev. T. F. Rucker officiated at a double wedding at the First Avenue Hotel. Principals were Lloyd Tribby and Miss Hester Miller of Whitewater and Dennis Kenny and Miss Bertha Lee of Saco.

Amos Kelly had completed his first venture in livestock feeding by topping the market at St. Paul with a carload of steers which brought him $10.50 with four out at $8.75. The load averaged 1,400 pounds and had been fed for six months.

Leading citizens of Malta held a meeting and decided to incorporate the town. There was some dissent from citizens fearful over the prospect of burdensome taxes for sidewalks and other improvements but these were allayed when Mayor George Hurd came up from Glasgow and told of the advantages of being an incorporated town. The decision was made to go ahead.

John LaPlace, rancher of the Leedy country, was brought to town suffering from a broken leg and exposure. His team had run away with him and the wagon passed over his body when he was thrown from the wagon seat. He had spent the night crawling after his horses on hands and knees. Rescue had come through an Indian who found him on the ground and had ridden to the Long X ranch for help.

Joe Hartman had gone to Chicago on a vacation jaunt. The principal excuse for the trip was to witness a double wedding in which a brother and a sister were to be married.
