Dodson FFA at State FFA in Billings

The Dodson FFA Chapter traveled to Billings for the 94th annual State FFA Convention. Students from Dodson that attended were Kataya Kill Eagle, Sebastian Best, Junior Stiffarm, Mason Lonebear, Lilyian Turnsplenty, Sonny Cole, and Jazlyn Kill Eagle.

The Dodson FFA meats team, comprised of Lilyian, Sebastian, Kataya, and Junior, placed 9th out of 36 teams. Individually, Lilyian placed 30th, Junior placed 33rd, Sebastian placed 51st, and Kataya placed 66th out of 138 participants. During the contest, members calculate beef yield and quality grades, identify retail cuts of beef, lamb, and pork, rank cuts of meat, complete a written test, and participate in a team problem (scenario) related to the meat industry.

To qualify for the state-level contest, a chapter must place in the top half of the district they compete in. Last December, the Dodson meats team placed 3rd at the Judith Basin District contest.

Beyond the Meat Science Career Development Event (CDE), the chapter also attended an escape room (and escaped in 55 minutes and 41 seconds), toured The Rocky Mountain College, and toured the Billings Zoo.

Rod Donahue, advisor, and the Dodson FFA chapter would like to wish the two seniors and four-year FFA members, Seb and Kataya, good luck in college and their future plans.
