    Mark Hebert, Editor|Feb 11, 2015

If you have visited R & G Quality Feeds in the past 30 years, chances are that you have seen George Lamb, one of the company's owners, busily entering figures, by hand, into his ledger book. George has worked many hours during his 90 years – and still puts in 10-hours a day, six days a week – but he admitted last week that he is not as spry as he once was. "At this point, Ric (his oldest son) manages everything and I am the official coffee maker," George said with a wink and a nod. These day... Full story

  • It's a good thing they don't tolerate spills

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Feb 11, 2015

Tad True should be an expert by now. Vice president of the Wyoming company whose pipeline recently leaked 30,000 gallons of crude oil into the Yellowstone River, True told the Casper Star Tribune he learns from every spill. And family owned True Oil has seen a lot of them. Bridger Pipeline alone leaked nearly 11,000 gallons of crude in nine incidents between 2006 and 2014. Belle Fourche Pipieline Co., also owned by True Oil, spilled more than 270,000 gallons of oil over the same period....

  • Volume 93, Week 50

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Feb 11, 2015

The first rule of writing a weekly newspaper column is that you never look back. Last week’s rant was what it was, as was the week’s before. Once I’ve hit 500 words for this column during the week, and I think I’ve made some kind of point without turning 2,000 people irate, I mark it on the scorecard as “par” and move on to the next hole. It’s 14 inches of newsprint that I need to fill on the right hand side of this page each week and sometimes it is a pain. In two weeks, I celebrate the one-year mark as the publisher of this county’s news...

  • Montana's Sage Grouse saga continues

    Ron Stoneberg|Feb 11, 2015

The sage grouse 'listing' saga continues unabated in Montana. To date the many working groups, advisory boards, committees, etc. have spent hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars on this issue. Why? Because the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is threatening to list the bird as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The ESA defines a 'threatened species' as, "any species which is likely to become an endangered species within the foreseeable future..." and an 'endangered species' as, "any species which is...

It’s one of my favorite times of the year.... TOURNAMENT TIME! To me there is nothing more suspenseful than a basketball game.
