  • Malta man's passion for photos leads to popular web page

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Apr 9, 2014

It was said, a long time ago, that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, that was said in the day and age before Facebook. Now the saying could be changed to “a picture is worth a thousand words … but if you have a thousand friends on Facebook, the pictures could generate millions of words. On a whim, about two years ago, Malta resident Ken Ulrich posted a few pictures on his personal Facebook page of Malta High School, photos taken back in the early 1960’s when he attended the school. He was shocked to see how many people commented on th...

He said that the smell was contained to a 15-foot s...

  • In this day and age, you can never be too safe

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Apr 9, 2014

On Tuesday afternoon, Malta superintendent of schools Kris Kuehn was notified of a bomb threat at the high school. Kuehn said in a press release that the situation was significant enough to reflect a possible imminent threat to the students and staff and canceled school for Wednesday. That choice was the absolute correct one to make for the school and the community. In this day and age, for a variety of reasons, threats like this can’t be viewed as pranks or April Fools jokes. They must be taken seriously. The mainstream media, almost daily i...

    Marko Manoukian, For PCN|Apr 9, 2014

While Phillips County is experiencing a cool spell, drought stricken California and other south western states (38% of the U.S.) will produce less agriculture products in 2014. • Ramblings of a city boy

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Apr 9, 2014

Last week marked the start of the 2014 Major League Baseball season. With that comes countless hours of looking up at my phone and away hoping the little blips on the screen indicate a score from my Chicago White Sox or a strikeout, double or triple play from their defense. Those “blips” on the screen remind me that I do not have cable and I will not likely see a Chicago baseball game, basketball game or football game because I’m not in the Windy City anymore. There are a few things I miss...
