  • Gone in 120 seconds

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jun 3, 2015

On Friday morning at Albertsons in Malta, Ann Sautter readied herself for a once in a lifetime shopping spree as she was recently named the Malta Chamber of Commerce Two Minutes to Win It winner. Sautter's mother, Jean Niebur, entered her daughter in the contest and was surprised when her name was called. "I only entered the contest one time at Valley Drug and she got picked," Niebur said. Sautter, a regular shopper at the Malta Albertsons, said she knew the layout of the store very well and her strategy was somewhat helter-skelter. "I know I h...

  • I have a canoe older than that

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Jun 3, 2015

A century just isn’t what it used to be. The building where I write this column turns 100 years old this year. So does my house. I remember visiting relatives who lived in a century-old home when I was a kid. The place seemed ancient. After all, it had been built before the start of the Civil War. Now I live in a house built in 1915, and while it does seem a little dated, it’s only 37 years older than me. I have a canoe older than that bought with paper route money when I was 16. A 17-foot alu...

  • Wyoming bison rancher weighs in

    Jun 3, 2015

Dear Editor, As bison ranchers for 23 years, we would like to comment on the APR’s proposal to tear out their interior fences and let bison graze all year long, apparently without grazing management of any kind. As we suspect you are aware, it is a myth that bison do not overgraze their habitat. They have preferred plants, just like any species, and they will hit the same plants over and over, until those plants are severely damaged or gone. Let us give you a personal example, when we first started raising bison, we adopted the “free-ranging” i...

  • I dedicate Blowing in the Wind to you

    Jun 3, 2015

Dear Editor, I am writing this so no one else has to go through the heartache and pain we have gone through due to the administrators of the PC Home and Health. Thank you so much for your help. We were unable to respect and grant Nancy’s dying wish to be in Malta during her final days on earth. She thought highly of Malta and the medical community which we had many discussions and opposing views about. I wish she could have proved me wrong this time, and showed me you were compassionate and caring. Nancy generated a lot of money as a p...

  • Don't be afraid of the 4-plate

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jun 3, 2015

In the coming week, lets say Thursday or Friday-ish, if you happen to see a vehicle or two driving through our fair county with a 4 on the license plate, don't fear, hippies aren't invading. That car with that license plate is most likely my wife's parents -- my in-laws -- and they are making the almost seven hour trek to Malta later this week at the exact time as we depart for our trip to SoCal. They are coming to town to help us out while we are gone and will be taking care of Stella the Spoiled Chihuahua and Steve, the Hairy Jerk (formerly...

    Kathy Bagley, PCN Correspondent|Jun 3, 2015

It’s not easy bringing the fine arts to people’s attention in such a physically active community. Our sports teams are among the finest in the state of Montana. Their recognition is well deserved and competition is fierce. Speech and Drama Club are extremely important as our students learn to inter-act with and negotiate with other people in and out of our community. And the music programs and outside performing arts are key ingredients for entertainment and learning in our community. But I found out something sad the other day. In talking to...
