  • FWP requests folks lookout for horned lizards

Marc Kloker, FWP Region 6 Upland Game Bird Specialist|Aug 23, 2017

As you are hitting the field (and more importantly, the prairie) this fall, be sure to take a break from scanning the horizon for game and look down at the ground once in a while. Not only will this hopefully help you avoid stepping on a cactus or a rattlesnake, you might also see one of eastern Montana's rarely seen critters...the greater short-horned lizard; and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks would like to know about it. The greater short- horned lizard, Phrynosoma hernandesi, or "horny...

  • Loring News for August 23, 2017

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Aug 23, 2017

I'm so sorry that I missed writing the news last week. I was at a family reunion in Kalispell area. It was smoky over there until Sunday night and Monday but we still had a great time! Fifteen Cowan relatives in the same house for four days caused unimaginable giggles! We ate our share of Flathead cherries! In addition, David, my son, did most of the cooking on the Traegar. We also took a tour on a ship of the Flathead Lake. Then one evening Scott Cowan, Debbie Richau and I drove to Whitefish...

  • I'll fish there until I can't

    Parker Heinlein, PCN Correspondent|Aug 23, 2017

Anticipation nearly crippled me. A week before my annual trek into the Yellowstone River canyon my knees began to ache. I hadn’t been running or biking or engaging in any unusual physical activity so I figured it was all in my head. Probably it was because I knew what was ahead. I first fished the canyon in 1971 when I was working for an outfitter in Cooke City. An elderly couple from Ohio had rented saddle horses for the trip and I accompanied them as the wrangler. I don’t remember much abo...

  • So quick to judge

    Aug 23, 2017

Dear Editor, Too bad there is so much hate in our country - whether on social network, on the TV, from our leaders, or face to face. Why can't we respect others view point, choice of religion or color of one’s skin instead of insulting or berating? You don't have to embrace the idea but you may become educated to new information that will help you know the person better and make you a better person. It is sad we are so quick to judge. Barbara Schlocker Malta...

  • Love God and love your neighbor

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Aug 23, 2017

As a lot of people know, I am from the Chicago-land area, so I can’t comprehend the southerner’s take on Confederate flags and monuments. (Before you continue, re-read the previous sentence twice if needed and then consider this is from a different point of view.) I do know that growing up I was taught of the south’s rebellion that led to our Civil War. It is great that some people want to remember something terrible from our past. I get it, southern pride. But whenever I am in the presence of a...
