  • Wildfire Volleyball: Shows potential after winning first two games

    The Saco-Hinsdale Wildfire may be younger than they were last year, but they are proving to be every bit as strong as last year's squad. The Wildfire kicked their season off to a 2-0 start after defeating Lustre Christian in three games of five (25-20, 25-14 and 25-6) in Lustre last Thursday and defeating Opheim (25-18, 25-19, 25-10) in their home opener the following day.   • Team takes second at Malta invitational

    The M-ettes have shown a lot of improvement in their first action of the year and nearly won the Malta invitational for the first time in years. The M-ettes made it all the way to the championship rounds against last years Southern C champs Winnett-Grass Range. They defeated Malta in two games with the first score being 25-21 and second being 25-14. This marks the second year in a row that Grass Range has won the Malta invitational after defeating Saco-Hinsdale last year for their 2013 victory.... Full story

  • Wildfire Volleyball: Team shows talent, despite inexperience

    The younger version of the Saco-Hinsdale Wildfire made their appearance at the Malta Invitational this weekend and eventually lost out in bracket play to TriCity. They did take out Poplar along the way, winning the first of two games 25-19 and 25-22, in a three game match. It was the only victory for the team that day as they lost to every other opponent they played.     The Saco Hinsdale Wildfire has a new look this year after losing Whitney Molina, Chadaya Christiansen, Shyla Gairrett and Bethany Lacock to graduation. Those four seniors helped the team to finish 12-3 last season and would've been a challenger for the C state title, if it weren't for unexpected losses to Bainville and Scobey in last year's Eastern C Divisional tournament in Scobey.     The Malta M-ettes look fierce this year, with eight or their 13 varsity players beings a part of this year's senior class. Among those starters is first team all-conference athlete Darby Schye and second all conference athletes Larimie Scheffelmear and Kelsey Kuehn.     The Malta M-ettes volleyball team has a large squad, standing at 33 players between their varsity, junior varsity and c-squad. The team has been practicing hard and looks primed to defend their home turf at the 2014 Malta Volleyball Tournament on August 30 at 9:00 a.m. The varsity teams from all over the state will be playing at the high school, while the junior varsity and c-squads will be playing at the old gym.     The Malta M-ettes volleyball team hosted it's annual M-ettes Volleyball camp last Monday through Wednesday, with 45 girls fourth through eighth grade present for the three day event. The event was led by M-ettes Head Coach, Julia Tatafu, Tasha Hines and honorary coach Kalli Reintjes. The camp was officiated by coaches and Varsity and JV players.
