Simanton places first at the Choteau Classic; Moore places fourth

Malta's wrestling team had an impressive showing last weekend at the Choteau Classic and Big Sandy Mixer.

Trey Simanton, a 113 pound freshman came home the first place finisher at the Choteau Classic after defeating junior Trevor Moore the top ranked 113 class wrestler of Choteau in the championship match. Simanton won 6-1, spoiling Moore's homecoming.

Simanton was undefeated in the tournament (4-0) and last weekend as whole, winning all seven of his matches.

"We knew that if Trey wrestled up to his potential he would be up for the title match," Coach Ryan LaBrie told the PCN. "He beat the top ranked kid in his weight class, so that was a pretty big win for Trey."

Wrestling at 120 pounds, Kaden Moore also had an impressive showing at the Choteau Classic, going 3-2 and placing fourth in the tournament.

"With Kaden we knew there was a little more room for a potential placing," Coach LaBrie said.

Moore was also undefeated at the Big Sandy Mixer.

Mark Missildine a 103 pounder went undefeated (2-0) at the Big Sandy Mixer as well.

Keenan Schipman also went 2-0 in the 138 weight class.

"They are wrestling really well as a team and they're wrestling tougher each and every week," Coach LaBrie said. "And even some of the losses the guys are wrestling tough as well."

He went on to say that when you have so many wrestlers so close in their respective weight categories that it makes for better competition in practices and that transfers to the events.

The Choteau Mixer was held after the Choteau Classic and in the 182 weight class Chase Murray wrestled well, going 2-0 at the event.

"We should see all of our divisional opponents," Coach LaBrie said. "It's usually a pretty decent turnout... We've made some noise there in the past and hopefully we'll continue to wrestle well there."
