11:00 a.m. – Dr. Anne Johnson will discuss use, care, and maintenance of syringes. A 10% error with a repeater syringe is as little as 0.5 of a cc. Worn O-rings or barrels could easily provide this or larger of an error. Dr. Johnson would like you to bring your syringe to the meeting and she will trouble shoot any problems you may have. Dr. Johnson has been practicing Veterinary Med-icine for 38 years in Phillips County.

1:00 a.m. - Ken Bacus is the Legislative Affair Director for National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Bacus will discuss Mandatory Country of Origin lawsuit in the WTO as well as Trade Promotion Authority and outstanding trade agreements. Scott Yager leads NCBA’s efforts on environmental and private property rights issues. Yager will focus on EPA’s Waters of the United States (WOTUS) and a few more recent developments at EPA.

Kent Bacus serves as the Associate Director of Legislative Affairs in NCBA’s Washington, DC office. Kent is the point man on trade issues for NCBA, and also handles tax, transportation and appropriations issues. Kent joined NCBA in September 2010 after serving on several political campaigns in Texas. Prior to that, Kent worked as the agriculture legislative assistant to Senator Elizabeth Dole from North Carolina. Kent is originally from Wichita Falls, Texas, and holds a degree in history and political science from Texas Tech.

Scott Yager leads NCBA’s efforts on environmental and private property rights issues. Scott earned his law degree from the University of Maryland School Of Law and has worked at the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at Fort Meade, the office of the Maryland Attorney General, and most recently at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the Office of Water.

2:00 p.m. - Dr. Emily Glunk, MSU Extension Forage Specialist will discuss the recent moldy hay situation and identify potential mitigation options for hay production. Specifically using hay treatment/ inoculants to shorten harvest time as well as other agronomic forage issues.

Emily Glunk is the new Extension Forage Specialist and Assistant Professor at MSU. Emily grew up on a small farm in central Pennsylvania before graduating from Penn State University with her B.S. She completed her M.S. at North Carolina State University, where she began re-searching grazing and forage management. While completing her Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, Emily continued her research looking at forage utilization by livestock, which she is also continuing to do at MSU. Additionally, she is also interested in looking at things such as forage establishment, fertilization, methods of forage evaluation, as well as looking at the soil-forage-livestock interaction.

3:00 PM - Kara Lee will discuss the 50 K genetic evaluation system for commercial cattle producers and Certified Angus Beef ®.. Learn how to integrate the necessary tools into your cowherd that will improve quality and profitability. As the production brand manager for the Certified Angus Beef ® brand, Lee coordinates marketing and sales initiatives that guide producer education and promote best practices for supplying the brand.

Lee graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Agriculture Communications, but supporting livestock and food science classes had piqued a special interest in the meat side of the business. That combination leads her to a career in marketing with CAB where, since 2009, she has worked for the brand from the cow/calf producer all the way to restaurants and retail meat cases. Her current role on the production side of the company involves education and marketing for the brand’s cattlemen partners. A special portion of her work is also dedicated to educating restaurateurs and retailers about the beef community that stands behind the Certified Angus Beef ® brand through hands-on farm and ranch experiences. Lee resides in northeast Kansas with her husband where they both take an active role in the family business of farming and cattle production.
