One Nation, Under God

Nothing wrong with chasing your dreams

It was approximately game time as I exited the interstate and saw a seemingly majestic Washington-Grizzly Stadium. There was definitely an electric air of tension in my car as my stomach turned on the thought of seeing Tucker Schye on the field again. Nostalgia and excitement had me overridden with euphoria, I pulled up to the Motel 6, and see an equally excited Schye family patiently waiting to walk to the game with me.

Throughout the past few days I had been thinking in the back of my head exactly what my intention as far as preparing this article for Pierre would be. I had originally thought a sports story on the rivalry within mine and Tuckers’ friendship was the appropriate way to do it. I quickly realized how much better of an article I could create on the Cat-Griz game later this year. I knew it would be a column very shortly after realizing the crazy ties of that rivalry within my life. I had known almost instantly I had pitched the wrong idea COMPLETELY to Pierre.

The game was incredible. Simply put, it was an absolute joy watching one of my closest friends beat the, number one rated and incredibly over-hyped NDSU Bison. It was a game for the ages, so to tense, and incredibly fulfilling.I simply could not be happier, they pulled off the big win in the dwindling seconds.

The excitement throughout the game, which be honest, was an amazingly hard-fought and well-deserved win for the Grizzlies and more importantly my boy Tucker, was almost unbearable. According to my father, his name was heard multiple times on ESPN, and he had been in on a couple of plays. Most of which, I can confirm, however I may have been slightly preoccupied with my horrendous cooking skills.

Ultimately I chose to write this column more for my generation of the hometown. There is nothing wrong with chasing your dreams, quit being scared to fail, I promise you that crazy things can happen when you choose to pursue your ambitions. Tucker and I talk less than 10 times yearly since we’ve graduated, yet I can confidently say that regardless of how often we see each other our friendship will remain as strong as it was in “the day." That is why I’m hoping to inspire you to use your small town roots as a safety net, and do the things your passionate about. Obviously Malta, its’ inhabitants, and the roots we pride so very much will be able to catch you if you fall.

After the game Tucker and I met up with Mila Kunis, and Gisselle to further discuss our dinner plans later for the evening. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world having Mila on my arm, but damn did it hurt knowing Tucker had Gisselle. Alas, beggars cannot be choosers, and I figured why not, he had definitely deserved it.

Oh yeah, unfortunately from the inhalation of trees the past week, I was too tired and honestly too overloaded with homework to be willing to drive three hours. I knew that Tucker and his family would accept my apology no questions asked, and had really hoped that the above story could have happened like it was planned to. I am sorry for making you guys think I was at the game. ;) I apologize again Tucker, Mr. & Mrs. Schye, and Narbs! I will see you at the Cat game! Anyway, it's 4 a.m. Sunday morning and I better get this sent off before it’s too late!

Much love Family, Friends, Malta,

Brandon
