Lady Mavericks have solid week

The North Country Lady Mavericks nearly had a three win weekend after defeating Dodson 70-28 last Thursday in Dodson and defeating Glasgow 44-35 in Saco on Friday, but the Roy-Winifred Lady Outlaws proved too much for the young team, as North Country lost 57-54 on Saturday.

In what could be her last game against the Lady Coyotes, Tatum Moore shot exceptionally well, knocking down five treys on her way to a 36 point evening. She was perfect from the three point line, minus a near buzzer beater in the first quarter.

"I don't know what it was," Moore told the PCN. "I was excited for this game because having not won last weekend, we were kind of game hungry, but I was just feeling it I guess."

Moore had a hunch that she would shoot extremely well from the perimeter that night.

"I was making them all during warm-ups and it led to making them all in the game," Moore said.

Jada Sudbrack had 15 points. Mickayla Johnson had eight points. Kayleigh Cummings had five points. Payton Chopper had four points. Bailey Funk had two points.

The team displayed dominant defense and a potent offense led by Moore, who set the tone early, scoring 13 of the team's 21 first quarter points. The team held Dodson to two points.

The Lady Mavericks would outscore Dodson 17-11 in the second quarter, making the score 38-13 at halftime. The team also outscored Dodson 18-14 in the third.

Dodson would eventually lose their starting point guard to injury, but young eighth grader Kailee Henry left the Mavericks with quite the impression.

"Kailee Henry is pretty good," Cummings said. "She's just not afraid to drive in at all and that's good."

The win gave the Lady Mavericks a regular season sweep of the young Lady Coyotes.

"It feels pretty good," Cummings said. "I think we played good. Our defense was the key to our win. You can't have an offense without a defense."

In the team's win against Glasgow, Johnson led the team with 19 points. Moore had 10 points. Sudbrack had eight points. Cummings had six points. Funk had one point.

In the team's loss to Roy-Winifred, Moore led the Lady Mavericks in scoring with 30 points. Sudbrack had 14 points. Johnson and Funk had four points apiece. Cummings had two points.

North Country had a 16-14 lead at the end of the first, but the Lady Outlaws would bounce back to take a 33-29 lead by halftime. The Lady Mavericks would outscore Roy-Winifred 10-7 in the third, making the score 40-39 at the end of the quarter, but the Lady Outlaws would hold on to their lead in the fourth outscoring North Country 17-15 in the fourth quarter.
