Whitewater News

A study of the Swift Fox species (cute little grey and tan animals) is being conducted by Andrew Butler from Clemson University in South Carolina. He said that “the foxes migrated from Canada and are having trouble expanding further into Montana and trying to figure out why, is the main reason for the study.”

He then said, “I have placed small cameras on fence posts in Blaine, Phillips and Valley Counties in Montana. From the pictures we can gather lots of information and follow up on it by putting radio collars on them.”

The study is a collaboration with Montana, Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the Calgary Zoo, BLM, World Wildlife Fund, Oregon State university and the World Wildlife Foundation. He asks that any recent sightings be passed on to him by phone (215-704-7490.)

Andrew is boarding at Steve and Patty Young’s at present.

Welcome to Whitewater, Andrew.

The North 40 Café has a “birthday club” on the third Friday of each week. The birthday person gets a free prime rib dinner when accompanied by a paying guest. That’s nice.

The Hills gave me a ride to Malta where we visited Wesley, Renee Koss; they are building a new house in South Malta near Harb. Wes said “we drilled a well 300-feet to get water.” I drilled and reached water at only 40 feet here in Whitewater. Thank goodness for water!

Lou Besel grows and sells lovely, fresh garden vegetables. This includes cantaloupe, watermelon and Chinese egg plants. All of them are hard to grow in North Montana.

Happy birthday to all September birthdays.

Have a good week,

Helen
