Will finish picture in Malta

The Great West Film Company is erecting a temporary studio on the vacant lots just east of the Roy Dillon shop on Water Street, and here the balance of their big feature The Golden Goddess will be filmed. This studio will be used for the interior scenes having been taken in the Little Rockies and some in our city.

General Manager "Bill" Tobin returned from St. Paul this week and in an interview with the Enterprise, said: "The work that he's been sent east for finishing is turning out great and I am more than pleased with the films taken so far and will be ready to release this picture about January 1."

Continuing, Mr. Tobin said, "The reason of our erecting this temporary studio here is that it would be almost impossible to take all of the Montana cowboys and cowgirls who are appearing in the scenes to St. Paul on account of the great expense and this Malta studio will be used for four or five days to finish the last reel of the feature."

Montana in Brief

Glasgow – A new record for Valley County land has been established there when E.C. Hargadine paid $28.50 for state land. Of the 13,000 acres advertised, 7,000 were sold. The total amount realized was $107, 256.

Helena – It is estimated that the naturalization in Montana so far this year exceed those in Idaho and Washington combined. This is cited as evidence that Montana has received a large percentage of the permanent immigration to the northwest than its sister states. More than 1,500 have obtained citizen papers so far this year.

The World in Brief

Savanah, Ga. – It is believed that a submarine of undetermined nationality is lying off Savannah.

New York – In two years the United States automobile trade with India has increased 400-percent. Uncle Sam now sells two-thirds of the cars used in the great English colony.

Courthouse's garbage jumps to $2,845 a year

"If they are trying to send a message up here, we got it."

That's how County Commission Chairman Sherman Doucette reacted Tuesday during a discussion, initiated by him, with the PCN concerning what the City of Malta plans to bill the courthouse for refuse service.

Garbage rates for landfill use and refuse pickup were recently determined by the city council and will be included as assessments on the tax notices to will soon be mailed out.

The new rates have the courthouse (county government offices located at the courthouse) paying a total of $2,845 for services during the fiscal year.

Last year they were assessed $880, according to information provided by the city office.

Commissioner Doucette, who said the county doesn't plan to protest, did point out that Malta High School will pay $927.50 and the elementary school will pay $1,308.75.
