New look for young Coyotes, who welcome four freshmen

The Dodson Coyotes Track team consists of six athletes this season as well as a new assistant coach.

The team was able to start practicing on March 13, but many of the young Coyotes will not be eligible to compete until the second week of meets.

Junior David Jaynes is the team's most experienced athlete in high school track, having participated in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Due to an injury Jaynes was only able to participate in throwing events last season, which included shot put, discus and javelin. Jaynes was able to qualify for the Eastern C Divisional in shot put placing sixth in the event.

"He's changing up his game plan this year," Dodson Head Coach Tianna Bloomer said. "He is not going to throw discus anymore. He is going to throw shot put, he is going to run the 100 and run the 400. He didn't run last year because of his hamstring injury."

Junior Jasper Doney will be in his first year of track.

"I think he will throw discus and shot put and believe that he said he was going to do the mile or the 800," Coach Bloomer said.

Freshman Christina Jaynes will be the team's lone Lady Coyote this season.

"I see her going to state for discus," Coach Bloomer said. "It's a big possibility for her, but she will be throwing shot put and she is going to try javelin this year. I'm pretty sure she is going to be at the top in discus this year if she keeps holding up her streak this year."

Last season C. Jaynes was able to take second in the Middle School 3C District Meet, posting a throw of 80-9 and a personal best of 85-0 at the Nashua Porcupine invitational.

The boys' freshman class consists of Corbin LoneBear, Caleb Ditmar and Randall Werk.

LoneBear isn't available for the start of the season, but Coach Bloomer believes he will compete in running and jumping events.

"We are going to focus more on running with him because he is really good at it," Coach Bloomer said.

LoneBear isn't the only freshman unsure of where he will fit as both Ditmar and Werk are also unavailable.

"Both have just started," Coach Bloomer said. "Caleb will be a runner for sure and Randall will probably focus more on throwing events but we don't have the events they will do nailed down yet."

The team's new assistant coach is first year teacher and Coach Natacha Doney.

"She has track experience," Coach Bloomer said. "She participated in track when she was a student here. She was a state cross country runner."

Coach Doney will coach running and sprinting events.
