Darrold D. Palmer

Darrold D. Palmer, age 79, of Yankton, S.D., died on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Graveside services were 2 p.m., on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 and the SD Army National Guard. The family received friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton.

Darrold was born May 22, 1937 in Ashton, Idaho, to Carl and Dora (Christensen) Palmer. He grew up in Ashton where he graduated high school. In 1954 at the age of 17, Darrold enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany at the end of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1957 and lived in Denver, Colo., for a brief time where he drove truck. Darrold moved to Billings, Mont., and met Edith Parenteau. They were married on December 20, 1971. After their marriage, they lived several places in Montana and even ran a wheat farm in Northern Montana for several years. Darrold and his family moved to California where he continued trucking. In May of 1992, they moved to Yankton and Darrold worked security at Alumax until his retirement. Darrold enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in the garage. He loved to travel with his family and always treasured the time spent together.

Darrold is survived by four sons: Cleo (Tami) Dolphay, Miles Dolphay, Bret Dolphay and Darren (Jessica) Palmer, all of Yankton; two daughters, Kathy (Kenny) Ereaux of Malta, Mont., and Christine (Jason) Krumback of Yankton; six grandchildren: Christopher and Matthew VanWinkle, Mason Ereaux, CJ Dolphay, Nathan Krumback and Kerri (Calvin) Thompson; four great grandchildren: Kylie, Paxton, Alivia and Mya.

Darrold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith Palmer on October 7, 2016; daughter, Kimberly Ann Palmer; two sisters, Eva Palmer and a sister in infancy; and a brother, Leon Palmer.
