3C Girls clash at district meet

The Women’s District 3C Track Meet is in the books and all three Phillips County teams will have athletes in the Eastern C Divisional this Saturday.

Scobey won the 3C meet held in Wolf Point with 200 points. Frazer took second with 68 points. Saco took third with 57. Nashua took fourth with 54, Hinsdale was fifth with 29 and Lustre Christian took sixth with 24. Whitewater took seventh with 16 points and Dodson took eighth with ten points.

Saco’s Bailey Funk won three of four events that she entered, those events include pole vault in which she cleared 8-6, long jump where she posted a leap of 14-09 ¼ and triple jump where she left a mark of 32-03 ½. She also qualified for divisionals in the 100 after posting a season best of 14.47 and taking fourth overall.

Funk retained her crown in pole vault.

“It feels nice, I guess,” Funk said. “I need to keep getting my feet up because my feet don’t go up very well.”

Whitewater’s Kayleigh Cummings took second in shot put with a throw of 33-3.

“It’s going okay I guess,” Cummings said after the finals in shot put. “Today I did not throw my best but close to my best.”

She set a goal for the mark she wants in shot put.

“I would really like a 35 but I would be happy with a 34,” Cummings said.

Cummings would have javelin later that day but she knew what to do for a good attempt.

“Probably to aim high because usually I’m pretty flat,” she said.

Cummings took fourth in javelin with a throw of 97-04. She was happy with being able to move on to divisionals in her senior season.

“It feels pretty good,” Cummings said.

Saco’s Sydney Zeller took second in high jump after clearing a season high 4-10. Zeller also took second in the 400 with a personal best of 1:08.81. She took fourth in long jump leaving a mark at 14-03 and fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:46.37.

Dodson freshman Christina Jaynes took third in discus with a throw of 84-03 and fourth in shot put with a throw of 29-10.

“My follow through,” Jaynes said when asked what she would work on.

Jaynes was happy with qualifying for divisionals but not satisfied

“It feels good, but I want to go further than that, maybe State?” she said.

Isabella Lawless took fifth in shot put with a throw of 28-04. She also placed sixth in both the 400 and 800 with times of 1:22.26 and 3:04.78 respectively.

Saco’s Challise Young took sixth in discus with a personal best of 73-01.

Whitewater’s Serena Sanguins had a personal best of 1:45 in the 400 but just missed qualifying, placing seventh in the event. She also took seventh in shot put with a throw of 28-04.

The Eastern C Divisional is set to kick off on Saturday in Wolf Point.

The 100 Meter Hurdles event is scheduled to kick off at 10:00, as well as girls pole vault, girls shot put , boys javelin.
