County's Summer Reading Program gets underway

The Phillips County Library has begun its summer reading program, with sign-up starting on Monday, June 5, 2017. Preschoolers, through coming high school seniors; can earn an award for every five hours of reading up to 40 hours. It is not too late to sign up and avoid the "summer slump."

It is with great appreciation that the library thanks its sponsors who make the summer reading program such a success. The library has a selection of various items for all the readers who make the first five hours of reading time.

Westside Food Court is making a donation of a cookie to all the readers who make it up to 10 hours of reading.

At 15 hours of reading time we welcome Horizon Resources, are continuing with a donation of a 20 oz. Slush Puppy when the participants reach that goal.

Another sponsor of the reading program at the 20-hour mark is "3 Sisters" and they will be donating a 12 oz., Dr. Smoothie.

To cool things down a bit for summer, the Dairy Queen will give the readers a Mini Blizzard when they reach 25 hours.

Westside Food Court makes its second contribution to the program at 30 hours. Participants who read to 30 hours will be given a Personal Pan Pizza.

Crossroad Coffee's owners are staying with the summer reading program by donating a 16 oz. Italian Soda to the readers who read up to 35 hours.

And for the 40 hour prize Stretch's Pizza will give readers a one-topping Personal Pan Pizza.

The summer reading program will run for nine weeks this year. The program will end on Friday, August 4, 2017 with an Ice Cream Sundae party at the library basement meeting room at 2:30 pm.
