Blink of an eye

It all goes too fast.

Just yesterday, it seems, I was bundling up to go fishing: hat, gloves, long johns, facemask. Snow was still falling. The wind was cold. The water made my hands ache.

Now it’s hot and dry, the rivers are roaring, the reservoirs are on the rise.

I’m still wearing a hat and face mask, but now it’s to protect myself from the sun, which seems to grow hotter each year. Maybe it’s simply my growing intolerance for the heat, but I’m already longing for the cooler days of fall.
