Swim team in Chinook

The Malta Swim Team participated in the Chinook Meet last Weekend, bringing 16 swimmers and welcoming back some experienced teammates while also missing a few that have competed well early in the season.

“It went really well,” Malta Swim Team Head Coach Cassie Pratt said. “They ran a good meet. The 16 kids we took swam really well. These kids are off to a very good start.”

A few swimmers stood out during the meet, including eight-year-old Jahmiah Huffman LaBrie.

“He finished first in his backstroke, so he had a very good race,” Coach Pratt said.

Coach Pratt was also impressed with Connor Tuss, who took six seconds off of his backstroke.

A familiar duo returned for their first meet of the season as Darrow and Dallan Messerly hit the water.

“Darrow Messerly was sitting second his first day and then he pulled ahead and got first in 100 breaststroke,” Coach Pratt said.

The swimmers will be in Glasgow this weekend.

“It’s a good meet,” Coach Pratt said. “Unfortunately there are a couple of baseball camps going around the state so it might end up being a smaller meet, which is okay.”
