School board okays updated ways to pay

The Malta School District held their Board Meeting last Wednesday, July 12

The school board approved a credit and debit payment option on their infinite campus system.

The move to credit card payments included two motions presented to the board by Superintendent of Malta Public Schools Kris Kuehn. The first motion presented was to approve the ability to offer credit and debit payments and the second was to set up a student activities account to collect those types of payments.

“The board has to approve the creation or deletion of any account and so it would just be easier if we did it all in one motion,” Supt. Kuehn said during the meeting.

The process will potentially open the door for credit and debit transactions at extracurricular activities such as basketball and volleyball games. This would include entry to a game as well as an updated way to pay for concessions.

The council approved contracts for school staff for the 2017-2018 school year.

The 2017-18 bus routes were also approved. Supt. Kuehn announced major changes for those bus routes this fall.

Bus contractor contract extensions were approved for the school year as well as raises for drivers ranging from three to five percent.

Supt. Kuehn presented the board with an updated School Policy in which many of the updates included new verbiage that was in line with newly elected Superintendent Elsie Arntzen’s approach to education.

Supt. Kuehn also addressed last year’s budget.

“The end of the year budget turned out better than expected,” Supt. Kuehn said.

The board discussed finding an updated activity bus, though at the moment there are no plans to immediately purchase the vehicle.

The board approved a meeting for Tuesday, July 18, to discuss and vote on Dodson Public Schools joining the Malta football cooperative for this upcoming fall as well as future seasons.
