Bash for Cash Demo Derby

The event has been a hit and will be back in 2017

The Demolition Derby has nearly packed out the Phillips County Fair Grandstands in the past two years in Dodson.

The event now called "Bash for Cash Phillips County Demolition Derby," has been welcomed back for a third consecutive year and will take place on Saturday, August 5 at 6 p.m. Tickets will be $15 per adult and $5 for children 5-12.

Scott Skoyen of Chinook, the event's coordinator, explained what folks will see if they come to the grandstands that night.

"We're going to have some stuff wrecked," Skoyen said. "We are all going to have what they call a Chain and Bang."

The chain and bang event features heavier cars that have moved their battery and gas tank inside of the car and chained the doors before the demolition begins. Last year, the Chain and Bang event only featured a few cars, which is a trend Skoyen hopes improves at this year's fair.

"I hope to see a lot more of them this year than last year," Skoyen said.

Skoyen believes that last year's chain event shortage was just a miscommunication. He also knows that having as many as eight drivers in the chain event is a real possibility.

"We had about eight in Chinook this year," Skoyen said. "I would hope to see that many in Dodson. It's a real easy build for people and in two days, you could have a car completely done."

He also mentioned that the event pays $1,500.

"That's a pretty good payout for a few hours of work and throwing a car together," Skoyen said.

As far as general rules for the derby, only one rule applies.

"Don't hit the driver's door," Skoyen said. "That the only rule as far as driving goes."
