Swim team headed to divisionals

The Malta Swim team is headed to Sidney for the 2017 Montana Federation of Swimmers East Divisional meet this weekend.

Malta’s team is expected to field 26 swimmers in a meet that determines who will make it to the state meet.

The event starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29 and will conclude on Sunday, July 30.

In last weekend’s meet at Roundup, the team had 16 swimmers, which was a bump up from their previous two meets.

“The meet went well,” Coach Pratt said. “It went pretty quickly even though there was a ton of kids there.”

She went on to say that the numbers were up because the Roundup meet was the last of the regular season.

Coach Pratt praised her swimmers, pointing out that Danika, Mikaya, Taya Wilke has performed really well those days.

“Taya, my little Bantum, swam her 25 backstroke,” Coach Pratt said. “She didn’t end up placing in the top twelve but she cut four seconds. Danika cut nine seconds in her 100 IM, taking ninth. She had a good 50 backstroke. She cut almost 4 seconds and placing third.”

She went on to say that Mikaya placed in top six and top twelve in her events.

“She swam in the 200 meter, which is a long freestyle for juniors and if she would’ve been two seconds faster, she would’ve placed in the top six.”
